What to expect

This symposium brings together scholars, researchers, choreographers, dancers, South Asian community leaders, and performance professionals to explore intersections of post- and de-coloniality in artistic and area studies. The event centres on a new, decolonial reimagining of La Bayadère—a contemporary adaptation that rewrites the ballet’s racialized imaginary by grounding it in real histories of South Indian–European entanglements from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Your participation

The day is a combination of presentations and opportunities for plenary and small-group participation. Together we will reflect on broader decolonial artistic / research practices and discuss the wider implications for the future of decolonial arts and knowledge production.
